shiv·a·ree
noun: shivaree; plural noun: shivarees a noisy mock serenade performed by a group of people to celebrate a marriage or mock an unpopular person.
In this project, our goal was to take a singular word, in my case shivaree, and create a typographic layout that visually represented the meaning of it. To do this, we first started by creating type-only layouts, then working to add images as our concepts became clearer.

Sketching
The first step of this project, after receiving the word I would be visualizing, was to create physical collages with the letters of the word. Here, I began to experiment with the possibilities I could explore with just flat letters, which helped me to be more creative when I began fully sketching out my layouts.

Iteration
After sketching and working physically, I finally took my sketches to the computer. I was assigned to create 40 digital pieces, which a selection of can be seen to the left. From there, I combined the most successful parts of the design to create my final type-only image below. Here, I chose to utilize scale and negative space as the most prominent features within the design.

Final Poster
In the final poster, I utilized images I took throughout my day-to-day life that emulated the feeling of a shivaree. Though I did not find a noisy choir, I found that the closest thing to it was the sound within the dining halls during dinner time, and the sound my microwave made when its timer ended.
My final poster is to the right, and my inspiration photos and drafts are below.
